It’s been “bird week” at the farm. My Rosie has an endearing new habit of flying into the tack room while I’m milking the goats. She patiently watches and waits for for me to finish my chores so I can give her treats. Our broody hen is monopolizing the chicken coop – so the chickens are cozying up with the ducks and sharing their nests. I gathered 2 chicken eggs, 2 duck eggs and one tiny “Rosie egg” from the same duck nest today! And this morning, a group of 4 sparrows fledged from their nest in the Run-In with such a flourish, we all stopped to watch!
Mom and Dad sparrow were chirping and singing their eencouragement, while the babies took their inaugural flights. The sounds were what initially caught our attention – a symphony of joyous melodies (“You Lift Me Up” and “Go Johnny Bird, Go”!). Goats, Jethro, chickens, ducks and I all turned our eyes to see what was was going on.
Sparrows singing happy praises! And then the flights! From the nest to a beam and out into the trees. Higher into the branches on this sunny morning! Swoops and soars as they test their wings!! So much fun! And all the while, Mom and Dad are singing their encouragement!
What a gift it was to witness this sparrow family in their happiness.
What a beautiful reminder of the power of praise and encouragement! Sing your praises to your family and friends! Help them to find their wings and reach the next branch! Celebrate the small steps and the swoops and swirls! Find joy in the wins of others! Share their excitement and happiness!
