God First

I climbed to the top of the hill inside our pasture to take this picture. My first thought as I stepped into the dense fog early this morning was, “how hard the sun was working to break through the cloud cover”. And in almost the same moment, His gentle Spirit whispered, “You have it backwards.”

And so I did. The sun is a constant source of immense power and energy. Something like one-billionth of the sun’s total energy actually reaches the earth. We can’t really appreciate the enormity of the power of the sun. The sun does not “try” to break through the clouds – rather, the thick, heavy clouds hide the beautiful iridescent rays that are shining brilliantly beyond our planet.

Our God, creator of the sun, the earth, everything in, on and around it – is even bigger than that! “For from him and through him and to him are ALL things.” Romans 11:36.

Our limited human minds cannot comprehend His Glory. And yet, we imagine Him like a small angel on our shoulder or tiny voice of consciousness in our mind. How small we are! We make our own “clouds” that hide His beautiful presence and quiet His powerful voice.

Lord help us to keep our perspective right with you. We confess our pride and our indifference. Help us to put you FIRST in our lives, where you belong.

We are humbled by your presence and overwhelmed by your love. Thank you for showing us again and again, how very much we matter to you! Thank you for burning bright while we sweep away the cloud cover and seek your face!

“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.” Isaiah 40:28
