Rosie flew into the “milking parlor” while I was preparing to milk the goats this morning. All my animals are very “food motivated”, so I assumed Rosie was there for her worms. I carried Rosie and her treats to her nesting perch in the Run-In and set up her breakfast.
I returned to the milk room…and Rosie followed. Rosie waited patiently with me while I milked Maddie. She even closed her eyes and took short nap. She didn’t want her breakfast, so I guessed she was waiting for some milk. I poured some milk into a tiny, Rosie-sized bowl and set it next to her.
Rosie just got more cozy on her perch, cleaned some feathers and stayed put. I finished the milking and cleaned up the milk stand. Milk in hand, I opened the door to leave…and Rosie followed.
By the time I finished morning chores, it was clear that Rosie didn’t want anything from me – she just wanted to be where I was. She was content with simple attention and sharing space.
We tend to call on God when we need something, don’t we? When our spiritual bellies are empty; when we can’t achieve something or fix something (or someone) by our own efforts – THEN we go to God and ask for Him to fill us up, or fix the problem.
What if we just wanted to BE with Him? What if we went to our Lord with no agenda other than to rest in His presence? No questions. No requests. No junk to unload.
God calls himself, “I AM” (Exodus 3:14). I am is peace. I am is love. I am is strength and wisdom and grace and mercy. I am is everything you need. And I AM with you – in you – for you!
“I AM” is present tense – and HE is PRESENT, available and eager to be with you.
Your faith will grow as you practice experiencing His presence and watching Him work. May you find rest and security in the great I AM today. May your heart and spirit swell in His presence.
