I snapped some pictures of the girls before sunset last night. They enjoyed the “cooler” evening and the fresh grasses. They grazed peacefully together while Jethro watched from the hilltop.
I have watched Rosie and her chicks for hours since their arrival earlier this week. The tiny chicks watch Rosie and do everything that she does. When Rosie eats, the chicks eat. When Rosie sips water, the chicks sip water. I watched Rosie catch a small moth and drop the fluttering insect in front of her chicks so they could re-catch it!
And as I was sweeping the barn pad early this morning, Luna walked between me and the broom. Head tilted up and belly leaning in, she was there for her morning petting. Good morning!
Beautiful community. The animals are thriving in this safe place: a place where they know they belong, a place where they can be exactly who they are; a place where they are surrounded by love and support that makes them better every day.
I am getting ready to lead a small group study about “mentoring” (specifically, women mentoring women). In preparation for the study, I’ve been reading about the millennial generation and why church doesn’t interest them and why they are abandoning formal religion.
God is showing me that this younger generation wants exactly the same thing that I want: friends – authentic, genuine, real people who are willing to share their time, heart and attention.
These tech savvy millennials have a zillion pod cast choices to watch a sermon. But we can’t receive relationship through a podcast. We thrive within the context of true friendships…. a safe place to grow and learn and reach our God-given potential.
God hasn’t changed our design over the generations. We are hard-wired for relationships. We find our meaning and purpose as we grow and give within our community.
I am praying for “relationships” today – that you have or find your safe place to grow up and grow old. Search you heart and ask for God’s guidance – maybe He is asking you to be that safe place for someone else.
“Let’s see how inventive we can be in encouraging love and helping out, not avoiding worshiping together as some do but spurring each other on, especially as we see the big Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:25 (MSG)
