Treats from Heaven

Rosie is our Bantam (= tiny, less than one pound) Black Rosecomb hen and the sweetest of all the chickens. She prefers living with our goat herd to sharing space in the chicken house with the larger hens. Rosie’s nest box is on a shelf in the Run-In above Luna’s sleeping bench. It’s kind of like bunk beds.

Yesterday evening I noticed that Luna was munching on some of the treats I had put in Rosie’s food bowl. “Rosie, are you sharing your treats?” I asked, as I peered into the Run-In. Rosie was indeed “sharing”. She was scratching in the treat bowl and with each swipe of her foot, a few treats fell from her shelf onto Luna’s bench. Luna’s face said it all! She was absolutely thrilled with the treats falling from heaven!

There are so many applications here, but what jumped out at me at that moment was the sweetness of Rosie sharing something given especially for her, with one of the goats. I know that it was not exactly shared on purpose…but the result was same, Luna was blessed – and so was I.

God has given you gifts that are especially designed to touch lives around you (James 1:17). What is your gift (wisdom, teaching, hospitality, mercy, compassion, artistry, creativity, worship, prayer, leadership, administration…)? Is your gift wrapped up tight, tied with a beautiful bow and sitting on a self – or have you opened that gift and used it to bless others?

When you do what God has put in your heart and hands to do – YOU are the blessing. Using your gift is what blesses people and adds beautiful, valuable, exciting dimension to our community. Something is missing if you are not engaged in your space with your God-given gift. Use your gift – share your amazing self!

Thank you Lord for these beautiful moments – of laughter and lesson. Thank you for meeting me here in the pasture each day to talk with me and show me more of your amazing grace.Thank you for the opportunity to share these simple blessings with others. May someone’s heart be touched today through reading about these precious moments with you.

“Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For withthe measure you use it will be measured back to you.” Luke 6:38
